and then there was one

let me draw you a map. this is my new reality, as the last of my college friends have left madison in the past couple of weeks. it’s an interesting migration to the surrounding midwest, but also out west.

if you asked us 4 years ago, everyone would have said that i’d be the last person to stay in madison. but as it turns out, i’m the last one standing. while some left a couple years ago, it was dre, ann, whitney and i that held out for 2 1/2 years longer.

dre and ang left last week. one to salt lake and the other to rochester, for their first full clinical rotations before they are real doctors. whit left this morning on her adventure to oregon (you can follow her on whitbullgoeswest). yesterday, we sat at gotham and cried into our bagels with bagel chips on the side (why do they do that?). we looked like idiots. i am okay with that. and now i’m left, for the next two-three weeks, with miss ann dalee, who happens to be living with me before her move to denver, where her dreams of finally becoming a snow bunny will come true.

so, instead of sulking in my misery of having all my closest friends move away from me, i’m trying to sort out what the best route to visit them all would be. here’s what i’m thinking: start with whitney in eugene/portland for the weekend, swing by salt lake to meet dre’s husband and fellow wives (she’s very good at sharing), join ann skiing in denver for a week, finally make it down to houston to enjoy the heat with sami, and then swing back up to the midwest. working in rochester, milwaukee, and chicago is the easy part. just don’t forget you guys can visit me here too.

there are still many, many jumping pictures in our future. but as a reminder:
